We’re Coming Home… We’re Coming Home!

Friday, May 1st, 2009

They say the last 5% of any trip is the most dangerous and believe us the wind and gails on the way up from Dun Loghaire to Holywood stood as testimony to that addage. After over 4000 miles of tarmac and dirt we are finally back in Holywood, at the Green House.

To say at this point we are exhausted is an understatement and the thought of our own homes, beds and particularly bathrooms is heavenly. Family are glad to see us and we are certainly glad to see them… time to sign off now and spend some time with loved ones. We’ll be back blogging after the weekend with pic updates and lots more… must rest, thanks everybody, going to collapse now!

We’re Definately Back in Britain

Friday, May 1st, 2009

Well here we are, back in Britain. familiar roads, number plates and ice cream vans. Sterling required. Managed to cover a few miles yesterday afternoon after arriving in portsmouth, crashed in Lichfield last night and today we’re blasting through Wales to Holyhead to get our early afternoon crossing to Dun Loaghaire. Thens it’s a run from South to Northern Ireland in time for tea… or something like that… if we arrive in Holywood, NI on Sunday bedragled and broken don’t be surprised.

It’s been a long hard 15 days so far but it has been fabulous… 4200 miles in 15 days, that works out at about 295 miles a day… not bad going maybe we could give Charley & Ewan a run for their money! Thanks as always to all our supporters and sponsors, you are all legends!

Parisian Craic To Ease The Aches

Wednesday, April 29th, 2009

It would be a crime to finish our journey without having taken in some of the Parisian culture on our way through. A big city feel very odd after so much time tripping through continental rural villages and scenic country roads but the buzz is great. We both reckon that the last few legs to get here on the way down from Cadiz have been the most trying of our journey so far so terra firma for a day or so is delightful.

These are the last few days for us so some Parisian banter will be gratefully welcomed before we get back on the road for the final stretch. Thanks everybody who is following and supporting us on this monumental journey for the two barmy builder from Northern Ireland.

A Short Subway Story!

Sunday, April 26th, 2009

For those of you who have been following our regular tweets on www.twitter.com/wrongwayround you may be puzzled by our regualr references to ‘finding subways’… just to clear this up, we are not constantly looking for a tunnel underneath a road to sleep in after a hard days biking!

Our kind sponsors Karen & Ger are owners of several Subway hot food franchises back in sunny Northern Ireland and have challenges the pair of us to eat at least three Subway sandwiches as we cross the continent. Unfortunately Karen & Ger we have been on the road from Holywood to Cadiz and have only now found one on our return legs so here you go… a massive plug for Karen, Ger and Subway Belfast!

We made it!… Now Home James!

Tuesday, April 21st, 2009

Alas we have reached our ultimate goal… Cadiz!… at last we have arrived, battered and bruised but with spirits high then low and behold… no camp site!

Suffice to say that this minor inconvenience will do nothing to dampen our spirits! What seemed like a dream on a wet Wednesday 15th April 2009 when leaving Holywood, Northern Ireland in the pouring rain, is now a reality. We have so many miles under our belts we have almost lost count, we’ve been soaked, baked, lost, helped, hindered and then lost again but it has all been worth it for this moment, save the fact that we have nowhere within 40miles to sleep tonight!

Anyway another big thanks to all our sponsors, friends, family, followers and supporters for getting us here and while we go and look for somewhere to sleep you can all take pride in the fact the we made it and all your money is going to a fantastic cause, we just have to make it back now!

Hello everyone, we’re a third of the way through our journey and though it about time we posted an update about our antics so far.

After leaving The Green House in Holywood, Northern Ireland at 9.00 am on Wednesday the 15th April we are making good time on our trip and today we are heading towards Caceres on Leg 8 of our journey. So far we have experiences all the joys of long distance motorbike travel from a good soaking in Ireland, communication problems in Wales and sore backsides by the time we reached France.

That said we have met some of the most wonderful, interesting and helpful people imaginable on our trip so far. From the ATS man who has sponsored us for free tyres if required anywhere in Europe to Nyree at AMERICAN EXPRESS who arrange accommodation for us when we lost our way to the campsite, while tired, soaked and aching (by the way the advert on the thanks on the napkin I promised is below Nyree.) everyone has been delightful and we thank them all heartily for their assistance..

Official sponsors we salute you

Sunday, April 19th, 2009

Obviously it goes without saying that none of this would be possible without the support of all our sponsors. You will all be able to see from our gallery page that we are giving your brands a good showing when we can and will be returning with even more exclusive pics of your brands being promoted during our journey.

If you want to keep track with what we are doing daily please follow us on Twitter by clicking the link in the twitter window in the top right of the page. We are now officially Twitter addicts and are currently twittering to over 50 followers, sign up and become one too.

We will be blogging later this week about our challenges and providing the photographic evidence requested so we can be sure to guarantee your pledges.

Well better go now… today we are doing a bit of off roading now that our muscles are feeling like they can take it, plenty of pics and comment will be posted on Twitter as the day progresses so sign on and keep up.

Thanks again to you all for your support.

Watch Out France, Here We Come!

Saturday, April 18th, 2009

Big day today, our last hours in the UK before we ferry to France and better weather we hope. So far so good but we’re both starting to feel some twinges and cramps… maybe this wasn’t such a good idea after all! Well too late now!

As you can see from the pics we are using some extremely advanced navigational systems that Alan is overseeing, as for myself… well I think my pic says it all!

Better make a move and get this show on the road but a quick thanks to our marketing consultant Chris Campbell at Definite Vision who has been assisting us with our digital tech issues over the last few days and also Vincent & Jackie at Ceramica, providers of the finest tiles in North Down if not all of Northern Ireland.

Watch Out Britain, Here We Are!

Friday, April 17th, 2009

Hello Everybody. We are now back on the bloggosphere, twittersphers and emailsphere (if there is such a thing). Due to some minor technical issues we have been off the radar but we are now all sorted. Our trip has got off to a fairly soggy start with non stop rain during the Holywood to Holyhead leg on Wednesday 15th and the Holyhead to Brecon leg yesterday wasn’t a whole lot better… but our spirits are high and the best thing is the closer we get to Cadiz the better the weather will get - Hopefully!!

Next stop ferry, then mild, clement France for some real bike riding!

So here goes with a plug for the sponsor that sent us on our way from Holywood on leg one - Octagon Design, our design company of choice and designers of this fantastic website. Cheers Damien & Ray and thanks for all the hard work!

Thanks Octagon
