We’re Coming Home… We’re Coming Home!

Friday, May 1st, 2009

They say the last 5% of any trip is the most dangerous and believe us the wind and gails on the way up from Dun Loghaire to Holywood stood as testimony to that addage. After over 4000 miles of tarmac and dirt we are finally back in Holywood, at the Green House.

To say at this point we are exhausted is an understatement and the thought of our own homes, beds and particularly bathrooms is heavenly. Family are glad to see us and we are certainly glad to see them… time to sign off now and spend some time with loved ones. We’ll be back blogging after the weekend with pic updates and lots more… must rest, thanks everybody, going to collapse now!

We’re Definately Back in Britain

Friday, May 1st, 2009

Well here we are, back in Britain. familiar roads, number plates and ice cream vans. Sterling required. Managed to cover a few miles yesterday afternoon after arriving in portsmouth, crashed in Lichfield last night and today we’re blasting through Wales to Holyhead to get our early afternoon crossing to Dun Loaghaire. Thens it’s a run from South to Northern Ireland in time for tea… or something like that… if we arrive in Holywood, NI on Sunday bedragled and broken don’t be surprised.

It’s been a long hard 15 days so far but it has been fabulous… 4200 miles in 15 days, that works out at about 295 miles a day… not bad going maybe we could give Charley & Ewan a run for their money! Thanks as always to all our supporters and sponsors, you are all legends!

Parisian Craic To Ease The Aches

Wednesday, April 29th, 2009

It would be a crime to finish our journey without having taken in some of the Parisian culture on our way through. A big city feel very odd after so much time tripping through continental rural villages and scenic country roads but the buzz is great. We both reckon that the last few legs to get here on the way down from Cadiz have been the most trying of our journey so far so terra firma for a day or so is delightful.

These are the last few days for us so some Parisian banter will be gratefully welcomed before we get back on the road for the final stretch. Thanks everybody who is following and supporting us on this monumental journey for the two barmy builder from Northern Ireland.

Watch Out Britain, Here We Are!

Friday, April 17th, 2009

Hello Everybody. We are now back on the bloggosphere, twittersphers and emailsphere (if there is such a thing). Due to some minor technical issues we have been off the radar but we are now all sorted. Our trip has got off to a fairly soggy start with non stop rain during the Holywood to Holyhead leg on Wednesday 15th and the Holyhead to Brecon leg yesterday wasn’t a whole lot better… but our spirits are high and the best thing is the closer we get to Cadiz the better the weather will get - Hopefully!!

Next stop ferry, then mild, clement France for some real bike riding!

So here goes with a plug for the sponsor that sent us on our way from Holywood on leg one - Octagon Design, our design company of choice and designers of this fantastic website. Cheers Damien & Ray and thanks for all the hard work!

Tech Giving Us Trouble! AARGHH

Thursday, April 16th, 2009

Always the way, you lay all your plans, triple check everything and then boom! the tech lets you down. For some reason our twitpics are not posting on twitter and the site so afraid today you’re just going to have to make do with these few shots on the blog. Twitter due back up and running propertly within hours so hopefully we will be back on track for tomorrow.

Gotta go, big afternoon ahead, muscles starting to ache already though, Cadiz seems a long way away right now. Oh.. BTW the ‘Cook & Eat Roadkill’ challenge - Does this count?

Great Success at ‘Spanish Night’ Fundraiser

Tuesday, March 24th, 2009

Sky’s Wrong Way Round Charity fundraiser at TAPS2, Cotton Court, Belfast on Monday 30th March 2009 was a roaring success. Over 70 people attending the exclusive ‘Spanish Night’ and enjoyed delicious tapas, flamenco dancing, authentic live Spanish music and a range of exciting fundraising activities.

The Wrong Way Round team would like to thank everybody who attended, particularly those who pledge donations, bought raffle tickets and took part in the charity auction on the night. The support of everybody who took the time to join us is greatly appreciated.

Builders, Bikes & Bulldozers

Wednesday, January 28th, 2009

In their own inimitable style Stephen & Alan made an entrance at the Launch of their latest housing project in Newtownards. Ever keen to publicise their upcoming Wrong Way Round Charity Trip across Europe both directors of Sky Developments arrived in full BMW MotorRad gear on their beloved BMW GS-1200’s.

The guest of honour, Northern Ireland assembly minister Margaret Ritchie MLA might have been somewhat puzzled at the spectacle of the two swapping their skid lids for hard hats as they dismounted has she not been made aware of the Charity Trip at a previous meeting.

Suffice to say that Stephen & Alan’s shameless promotion of their upcoming trip succeeded in gaining addition supporters from the 30 or so invited guests who attended the groundbreaking ceremony including the minister and Jim Shannon MLA.

The boys meet Boorman!

Wednesday, December 17th, 2008

What would you do if you met your idol? Well the boys from the Wrong Way Round team, had to ask themselves the same question when the recently bumped into the legendary Charlie Boorman at an exclusive black tie event at the Ramada Hotel.

Charlie, the chap who inspired Stephen & Alan’s Wrong Way Round Charity Campaign with his an Ewan McGregor’s antics during their Long Way Round series on BBC TV, seemed a bit taken aback when accosted by Sky Developments’ directors Stephen McCready & Alan Johnston at the SPARKS Charity Event.

Suffice to say the the boys from Sky are not backward in being forward and made sure not to miss out on the photo opp.
